We met on February 20th to begin weeding the collection in order to make space for new materials. We managed to weed the entire collection in about two hours! Here are some photos.

One section of the library before we started weeding. This section included mystery books, sports books, and history. The Nancy Drew books (in this photo) circulate frequently, so those copies that were damaged beyond repair were set into a maybe pile. Books in this pile may be replaced as funds become available.

Here is the same section after the weeding. Many of the books fell within our weeding guidelines. Among the books we pulled were older encyclopedias (replacements have been donated by Urbana Free Library), and books that were discarded from other libraries and donated to the CCJDC after being deaccessioned.
As you can see, we have room for a lot of new materials. We are definitely ready to start building the collection again!
